Tips and Tools for End of Year Testing

With the end of the year coming up the usual tests are coming up. Students have the keystones for Bio, Algebra, and Literature. There are also finals for most classes like English, History, etc. These tests may cause lots of stress for students and it takes lots to prepare for.

Sophomore Yana Noronha says, “I review all of my notes and pay attention during class when we do review assignments.” 

Ways students can prepare for these tests are to study over the years worth of notes and assignments. They can pay extra attention when the teacher does the review at the end of the year. Students can also be sure to take care of themselves before the test like getting good sleep and eating well.

A tip from Noronha is, “I would tell any student to make sure that they do not try to cram everything the night before because it does not help and it just makes you more stressed out before the test.”

If students try to cram in all of the studying the night before the test it can become an issue in many ways. A student could lose sleep after trying to cram in a bunch of studying the night before.  If they don’t get enough sleep then then they could forget everything they had studied the night before. It is best if you take a few weeks before the test to study and not cram it in all at once. 

“I just try to make sure that I block out all of my outside distractions, or thoughts so that I am focused and prepared to take the test.” stated Noranha

High Arrow reporters earn contest awards

By High Arrow Staff On Wednesday, March 27, 2024, four members of the IHS High Arrow reporter staff were awarded monetary prizes and recognition for their efforts in the “Newspaper in Education” contest sponsored by the Indiana Gazette.    Over 25 different elementary, middle and high schools entered the contest in various different categories. The IHS High Arrow had six reporters submit entries in three different categories: Cover Design, Feature Story and Opinion Column. Of the six reporter entries, the IHS High Arrow reporter staff was awarded four awards. IHS Mini-THON fundraises for the Four Diamonds Foundation

By Addison Mosco The IHS Mini-THON fundraising committee is raising money for the Four-Diamonds Foundation. There are many different ways they are fundraising, but all the money is going to the same place: the Four Diamonds Foundation. Senior Emma Masengale comments, “We are fundraising by reaching out to businesses, holding events at school or during after-school events, and collecting change at local businesses as well as after school in our parking lot.” The Four Diamonds Foundation is a program that supports families and children who are affected by pediatric cancer. According to their website, the “Four Diamonds’ mission is to conquer childhood cancer by assisting children and their families through superior care, comprehensive support and innovative research.” The foundation has helped over 4,000 childhood cancer patients and their families receive the help that they need.  “I think it is very important to raise money because all the money goes towards

IHS Drama Club Prepares for Footloose

By Elizabeth Olsen With the change of seasons swiftly approaching, there are many things that the IHS student body has to look forward to. One of the most anticipated events coming up would be the annual spring musical, put on by the IHS Drama Club. This year, the club is taking on performing the Broadway version of the classic 1984 film, Footloose. There’s a lot more that goes into the club’s preparations than one may think, and learning about it can spark a whole new appreciation for the show.  To begin, the club dives into their rehearsals directly after Christmas break. For the entire month of January, the actors learn the entire book, which is essentially all the musical parts. Mini-THON 2024: What to expect

By Gabi Isenberg It’s that time of year again. Mini-THON 2024 is rapidly approaching and IHS Leadership has prepared a fun night for the school on March 21. Mini-THON is one of the largest school-organized and student-planned events. It is a smaller version of Penn State’s THON, during which students stand for 46 hours to raise money to find a cure for childhood cancer. IHS students pay a signup fee and then are drafted to one of the four colored teams. This year’s colors are pink, yellow, green and blue. In the months leading up to Mini-THON, fundraising takes place in the form of change wars, spikeball tournaments, and no phone days. The money raised is donated to the Four Diamonds Foundation to fund research for a cure for childhood cancer. At the end of the night, the total monetary count is revealed in celebration. Students take on after-school jobs

Whether it is for experience, money, or simply to keep busy with an extra benefit, almost the majority of students spend their free time after school or on weekends working.  When thinking about applying for a job during the busyness of the school year, it is appropriate to take into consideration the positive and negative attributes of a job.   The most popular jobs students have experience in involve retail service, fast food or working in a restaurant. IHS girls’ basketball rolls into season

By Addison Mosco IHS girls’ basketball kicked off their season with a game at Forest Hills High School against the Forest Hills Rangers. The game ended with a score of 45 Indiana and 53 Forest Hills.   Regarding how the season is going, sophomore Laken Kugler comments, “I believe our team has done an excellent job so far this season and I am really proud of how hard we have been working to keep improving. Every practice we work hard to get better and improve. My favorite part of being on the team is playing with some of my closest friends.
