Indiana Area Senior High School

By SYDNEY BRICE – FORE! Watch out for the Boy’s Golf team, coached by Matt Reed, as they work their way to the top of their section.

This year the Indiana Boy’s Golf team has added three new freshmen to the lineup. The team’s top six players so far this season are junior Alex Holuta, freshmen Trever Todd and Harrison Martineau, seniors Zach Eisenhower and Danny Williams, and freshman Adam Cowburn, respectively.

Other team members include freshmen Philip Bell, Nathan Teacher, and Charles Bell; sophomore Michael Lubold, junior Owen Lawson, and seniors Jack Fischer and Walker Raykes.

Indiana Boy’s Golf has had a season for the books with a current record of 8-3.

Todd, a freshman, who has medaled in four matches stated.  “I don’t feel any added pressure being a freshman playing against upperclassmen because at the end of the day we’re all playing the same golf course and age has nothing to do with that.”  He has prepared for the high school season by “Just working on my game when I have the time. To get good you have to put in the work, and that’s all I’m trying to do.”

The team has scored the lowest they have in the past five years with a score of 183. Holuta, a junior and first in the lineup stated,  “We all worked very hard this summer and into the season to make sure our games were in the best form possible.”

This year, the boys have faced many unfamiliar challenges due to the COVID-19 crisis. Senior Jack Fisher shared, “COVID has required our teams to wear masks when traveling for team affairs. Playing an outside sport like golf has minimized the COVID impact compared to other sports. Competing has been very similar but with no close contact of any form.”

Although the season is not what they expected, they are continuing to persevere.

Each player on the team has put their best into every match to ensure that they dominate.

Todd asserts, “My greatest accomplishment from the season is just helping my team win. If I can put up a good number and contribute, that’s all I care about.”

Holuta includes, “We are all like brothers and we know that if one person gets knocked down somebody will be there to pick them up, and I believe this is why we have been so successful this season.”
