By ADRIANA GUTH-BOROWSKI – Suede and denim mini skirts, velvet, and Birkenstocks. All of these are the start of new fall fashion fads.
Last year came the beginning of the resurrection of 90’s fashion including bomber jackets, chokers, and mom jeans. This year’s fashion, however, is more of a revived 70’s style.
The 2017 fall fashion season began with the resurrection of the skirt. Not only are denim skirts back, but also suede skirts. These new pieces seem to be becoming a staple in everyday wear. Sophomore Ceci Sherwood said, “I like the skirts, and they are very flattering.”
Most teens are gravitating towards interesting fabrics. Old fabrics such as suede and velvet are coming back to life. Also, many teens are going for jean jackets as their go-to accessory.
Sophomore Avery Redd states, “I am not a fan of the skirt trend because the buttons are weird. Although I am a fan of the new textiles that are coming into fashion, like the velvet.”
Many in the high school are still sporting the old cut-out shoulder trend, but in velvet instead.
A surprising trend is the recurrence of Crocs. After being looked down upon for years, it seems many have overlooked the social negativity for the sake of comfort. The rising in Crocs population seemed to have started at the end of last school year, only to gain momentum throughout the summer.
Senior Keegan Fulton-Schuller exclaimed, “I love Crocs! They are comfy and can be used in all terrains.”
Another interesting shoe coming into fashion is the Birkenstock. These gladiator-esque sandals are a perfect pairing to the pumpkin spice colored suede skirt. Senior Kristen Forrester stated, “I like to wear them because they are easy to slip on in a hurry. Also, they go with everything.” The students of IHS are straying away from style in place of comfort when it comes to footwear.
Many of the popular pieces this year closely resemble the vibe of the 70’s. With the classic yellow color coming into fashion full swing, it seems we have gone from 2017 to 1970.
Senior Maria Galeno said, “We are not moving anywhere in modern day history, so why not bring back the past. Most of the trends that come into style are from the past, just with a twist.”
