By DEBRA FLINT – On September 21, ICTC Cosmetology and Culinary students dedicated their time and talents to the Indiana Humane Society sponsored event Cause For Paws at Blue Spruce Park.

Culinary students provided baked paw prints for both humans and dogs to sell at a dollar each to raise money for the Humane Society while cosmetology students did face painting and airbrush tattoos. Sophomore Izabella Musser claimed that the best part was, “…seeing how happy the kids were after they got to see their new tattoo or face paint.”

Another sophomore, Amanda Skursky shared Musser’s sentiments, “I will most definitely do it next year; it was so much fun to see all of the little kids go crazy over us being there!”

After selling around 70 bags, the culinary booth ended up giving the rest of their treats away. Culinary junior, April Elder, expressed her love of the charity event, “I would do it again because it supports a good cause and it gives the culinary students experience with handling money and customers.” Elder later added that the best part of the day was of course the large amount of cute dogs.

In addition to the students’ aid, there was also a plethora of other activities including a 5k race, microchipping, pet photography, pet clothing, arts and crafts, and a basket raffle.

The Humane Society is a non-profit organization dedicated to preventing cruelty to animals. They provide a multitude of services beyond adoption, affordable microchipping, spaying/neutering, rehoming, and investigating/prosecuting cases of animal cruelty.

Overall the Cause for Paws event was a successful day with the help of the eager ICTC students.
