Indiana Area Senior High School

By KIARA DONOFRIO- Caleigh Cessna is a first-year staff member of Indiana Area Senior High School’s High Arrow newspaper. As a senior, this is her last year of having the opportunity to participate as a writer for the newspaper.

Caleigh first had to make the decision to join this class.  She proclaimed, “I had Mr. Nath for AP Lang.  I went in one day during his journalism class to ask a question and he recruited me.  He told me about all the fun that Journalism students have as well as the freedom they are given to write about school events. I instantly went down to guidance and got my schedule changed!”

She declared, “My most memorable moments as a member of the High Arrow Staff was when Mr. Nath told me that I would have one of my articles in the Indiana Gazette.  He told me that I need a more professional photo for the article since it would be shown to the community. I got together a group of relevant students to get a nice picture. I realized just how difficult it is to get pictures of teenagers. After 20 minutes and over 60 bad photos, we finally got one that would work.”

Caleigh could not pick a favorite article as she admitted, “I personally enjoyed writing every article and topic I was given. It was interesting to hear the view of our peers and the excitement we give them by asking their opinion. I also really enjoyed our class periods. We would brainstorm article ideas and it always turned into either funny or exceptionally serious discussions which were fun either way!”

Caleigh is involved in many other activities besides journalism.  She stated, “I am the Vice President of Eco Club, an Officer of Science Club, and a member of the Ambassadors. I also volunteer in the community and work at Sheetz. I plan to attend Pittsburgh Technical College for Architectural Engineering Technology.”

Caleigh made a huge impact on the High Arrow staff. Even though it was only her first year, she got the hang of writing articles straight away.  As she graduates this year, the High Arrow staff will not be the same without her.  The staff will miss her very much as she moves on to the next chapter of her life.
