By ADRIANA GUTH-BOROWSKI – During quarantine, many people have had a lot of extra time to spare. Many chose to spend that time watching show after show, however; there are alternatives to binge watching.

Various artistic activities are on the rise, including painting. With the extra time, many chose to learn or perfect the art of painting. The meticulous, or reckless, brush strokes allow for stress relief and relaxation.

“Painting is a fun quarantine hobby I would have otherwise never gotten into,” said junior Alexis Single. “It is very therapeutic, and it feels good to get some creative energy out.”

Besides painting, many other creative modes are a perfect way to occupy time. Activities like scrapbooking, crocheting or knitting allow for people to double task. Many chose to watch T.V. or listen to a podcast while they are being creative.

“Knitting is a great creative outlet, and it gives me a way to stay occupied and productive during quarantine,” stated senior Lauren Saurer.

Although it might seem the boredom is neverending, Pinterest supplies an endless supply of inspiration and projects. It allows people to get connected to painting ideas, crochet and knitting patterns, as well as, scrapbooking pages.

Along with crafts, Pinterest also has many recipes to try. During quarantine is a wonderful time to try recipes with food supplies around the house. From scratch or from a box, baking is a fun way to make something yummy and make memories.

“I have been baking a lot over quarantine,” said freshman Anna Failor. “I have made things with stuff you can find around the house like brownies, orange bars, cookies and muffins. I’ve also made banana bread.”

Listening to music can be a good way to pass the time. However, it is always a good idea to learn something new, like the guitar. With the extra time on everyone’s hands, now is the best time to pick up an instrument.

It is tempting to stare at a screen for hours, however; it is much more rewarding to be able to put a bit more effort in and get satisfaction when it is completed.
