By MIA LENZI – Pink was everyone’s favorite color at the pink out tailgate, football game, and dance. Students supported breast cancer awareness by wearing as much pink as they could at the tailgate, game, and dance.
Organized by leadership, all proceeds from the tailgate and dance went to support breast cancer research, specifically, all proceeds from the tailgate went to the Indiana Regional Medical Center. Designed to raise money and bring awareness, the night was filled with fun and excitement.
Starting at 5:30, before the pink out game, a tailgate was held outside of the upper commons where pink out merchandise was sold, such as shirts, water bottles, towels, and bags, as well as hot dogs, slushies, and drinks. Everyone attending the game was welcome to come and enjoy the festivities.
Senior Kristen Forrester helped make a difference by selling merchandise not only at the tailgate but throughout the whole football game. Forrester comments, “There was a great turn out for the pink out tailgate and dance! We got a lot of people involved in supporting a great cause.”
Following the football game, a pink out themed dance was held at IHS. Tickets were sold throughout the week for three dollars. Lasting from 9:00 to 10:30, the dance turned out to be a great night for everyone involved. Senior Mia Spadafora, an organizer of the event, says, “I think because it is a new event, a lot of people were unaware of everything going on. I think for it being the first year we had a really good turnout.”
Senior Kenzi Kessler enjoyed all activities. She comments, “I think the tailgate and dance turned out just as we expected it would. the dance was a ton of fun! We raised a lot of money for various cancer research organizations as well as awareness of the disease itself.”
As reported by Spadafora, there were a total of eight students who put their heads together to make a difference and support a great cause, “It was really cool to see us get together and work towards something beneficial”.
IHS thanks the organizers of the events, and every single person who donated or supported the cause. These events were not made so everyone could wear pink for a day, they were made to support a cause and bring support to those who are affected by it.
