Emma Sheeran is a first-year journalist for the high arrow. She has written many articles for the publication, including an opinion article on IHS’ football team name. “I haven’t done journalism for very long, but I’m really enjoying it,” she says. “I want to be a journalist someday, too, so this is a good starting spot for that.” She doesn’t know what school she will be attending yet, but she has high hopes of working for NPR or the Washington Post and is making moves to get there.

In her free time, she does mini crosswords and practices her instrument. She plays bassoon primarily and plays clarinet in the marching band. She also ended her senior band season as clarinet section leader. She attended the PMEA All-state band in both her sophomore and junior years as first and second chair respectively. “Music is a huge part of my life and for sure always will be. Plus, it’s definitely a great way to get some money for college,” she laughs.

As for other hobbies and interests, Sheeran eats, sleeps, and breathes Taylor Swift. “The first song I ever listened to was “Love Story” in 2009. Four-year-old me was feeling pure joy jumping around on my couch,” she recalls her very first time listening to Swift. “If I ever met her, I would definitely flip out and cry.”

Sheeran and her relatives have contributed a lot of money to Taylor Swift. “I have five ‘pieces’ of merch: I have the Red Taylor’s Version cardigan, the “All Too Well” hoodie, sweatpants that say “Swiftie” on them, and for Christmas my aunt is getting me a Lover ornament, and a Karma t-shirt. The moral of the story is: I have a lot. I didn’t before, but recently I started asking for things for Christmas and it has added up!” She’s definitely one of the biggest “Swifties” I have ever met.
