Freshman volleyball returns for the fall sports season

By ELLA MOSCO

The IHS girl’s freshman volleyball team began their season on August 22 against Hempfield High School. The girls are continuing to play against surrounding schools and districts, and support from the students can majorly affect how the girls play throughout this fall sports season.

Freshman Hannah Stone says, “We’re about 3-1 on the season which is really good. Hopefully, the team can pull through and win a lot more.” Everyone putting in the effort can result in the achievement of the team’s major goal to win as many games as possible.

The girl’s hard work during practices and games shows on the court every game. The team is doing well and continuing to win games. If the players work on themselves individually, and with the team as a whole, they have the potential to grow together and win a lot of games.

Stone explains, “It’s really hard to be a team unless the whole team is putting in the work.  My goal for the season is to improve my hitting”

Freshman Laken Kugler describes her goals for the season, “My goal is to keep growing as a setter and to have a more positive mindset.”

Emma Runge explains that her team’s goal for the season is “to improve as a team and develop team chemistry.” It’s important for the team to communicate with each other on individual goals to drive their own motivation. The girls are improving team chemistry and communication with each game, which is helping to improve their overall progress throughout this season.

Runge added, “Communication can sometimes be a challenge, but we are getting better each game.”

The fact that they are all freshmen and have been together through most of their years in school is useful and makes it easier for them to communicate and build solid relationships on the team.

The freshman girls are striving to do their best and improve as a team. While they continue to work toward achieving their goals and celebrating their successes, they will also have to learn from their losses. Losing a game can be a good way to find flaws and work on them to improve as a whole.

The freshman girl’s volleyball team is off to a great start and continues to build confidence as a team.
