By KILEY BRANAN – Emma Norman is a senior on the High Arrow staff. Emma has been on the staff for three years and has enjoyed every moment. “It has been one of the best learning experiences of my high school career,” mentioned Emma.
Some of her best memories while on the staff took place at the class parties and small talks over donuts. Over the course of her three years on the staff, Norman has written many articles that were a wonderful addition to the school newspaper.
One of her most memorable articles was her feature piece on Maya Angelou, “I wrote this article for the Newspaper in Education contest in my junior year and I had so much fun with it!” said Norman. She won first place with this article and it was published in the Indiana Gazette. In addition she won second place in the Newspaper in Education contest with her feature article on what makes a leader.
High Arrow adviser Mr. Nath commented, “Emma will be forever remembered for her cheerful energy, willingness to go above and beyond to get interviews and information for her articles, and for her panini maker, which is still in my classroom.”
After high school, Emma will be attending the Indiana University of Pennsylvania for Exploratory Health and Human Services. “I have a lot of big dreams for the future and I am excited to experience a variety of learning opportunities” added Emma. She is sad that her senior year got cut short but is excited for what the future holds.
Emma’s advice for younger students on the staff is to enjoy the next few years and cherish every moment stating, “Be bold and don’t be afraid to stand out. High school goes by way too fast and I would give anything to be back in those classrooms learning beside my friends and fellow classmates.”
Before she parts for college Emma would like to thank everyone on the High Arrow staff over the last three years as well as our adviser Mr. Nath. “You have all shaped me into a better writer and a better journalist. Getting to write for my high school newspaper was an experience I will never forget. To my fellow seniors on the staff, I am sad that we didn’t get the senior year we had hoped for but I am so proud and so excited to see what you all accomplish these next few years!”
Kiley is a freshman and a first year reporter for the High Arrow. She enjoys writing about sports and school events.
