IHS students are giving a warm welcome to Mrs. Brittany Anderson, the newest attendance officer. She comes to IHS from Eisenhower and Horace Mann Elementary. She worked there until this year and moved to the senior high when this job opened. The IHS community is very excited to learn more about her.
Mrs. Anderson was raised here in Indiana and graduated from IHS in 2012. She plans to have a positive impact on our school and hopes to create the same kind of atmosphere that she was exposed to. Mrs. Anderson comments, “School attendance is so important, so I hope to help create a positive environment and be a friendly face for IHS students in the attendance office.” She currently enjoys our IHS community sharing, “I love it here at IHS. The students and staff have both been so welcoming.”
Creating a positive and welcoming environment has always been one of IHS’s goals. Students were asked what staff could do and have done to make more of an impact in their everyday lives in the school community. Matthew Blystone, a senior here at IHS, answered, “I think Mrs. Anderson brings a positive attitude to the Main Office and is definitely a great change.”
School attendance officers have an important job to do as well as being IHS PROUD. Vania Ali, a senior, states that attendance officers are important because “they help keep things like students coming in late and attendance in order and make it go more smoothly and quickly.” These officers are often busy with checking up on unexcused absences and calls. They are responsible for making sure that you aren’t handed an unexcused absence if you do have a good reason to be absent. Mrs. Gallo, an administrative assistant, comments, “We would like to think high school students are responsible enough to set their alarms and get themselves up in the mornings, unfortunately, that’s not the case all of the time. Sometimes we all need a little reminder to look at PowerSchool to check those things, [and] an attendance officer makes sure that we all get that nudge.”
Mrs. Anderson is welcomed to the IHS school community with open arms from both students and staff. You can meet her in the Attendance Office, near the Commons Cafe.
Emma Buterbaugh is a freshman and a first-year reporter for the High Arrow. She enjoys reading and practicing showmanship with her two rabbits, Felipe and Lafayette. She enjoys spending time with her close friends and family. She is very excited to start writing for the High Arrow.
