By EMMA NORMAN – Spring track has made an appearance and IHS runners are here to win the race. IHS hosted its first meet of the season against Penn Trafford on Tuesday, March 26th and will continue the season through the month of April.

Both the boy’s and girl’s varsity teams won their first meet and are excited to see what the rest of the season holds.

Freshman Maria Kowchuck was excited about winning her first meet. Kowchuck stated, “I feel proud of both our boys and girls team for winning our meet.  We both went hard and really tried to win each event. I hope that we win all of our meets or come really close too. Some of my personal goals for this season is to make my times shorter.”

Both the boy’s and girl’s teams are known for being close and enjoy spending time together both on and off of the track.

Junior Maddie Caroff talked about her personal experience with track and her expectations for the season this year. She remarked, “It’s always great to start out the season with a win. Our team is looking stronger than ever. I except us to keep taking home the gold and improving day by day. Everyone is so dedicated and works so hard. I personally am just trying to get back into shape from being out for so long due to injury. I’m looking forward to just being able to run and enjoy the season with my team.”

The team has high expectations for this season and are looking forward to seeing the WPIALs and State qualifiers. Junior Jack Finegan spoke of his personal goals and expectations for this season. He commented, “After winning the first meet I feel really confident and excited for the rest of the season. This year I feel we have the best team we’ve had since I’ve been in high school. For the rest of the season, I expect that we will have some very good people in a lot of events. I’m excited to see how many people qualify for WPIALs and States. Personally, I’d like to PR in all of my events and possibly qualify.”

IHS congratulates the track team and is looking forward to seeing what else this season has in store for them.
