By EMMA NORMAN – On September 17, the girl’s volleyball team held their annual charity game and was rewarded with overwhelming success.

The game was for the Wounded Warriors in Action Foundation. The girls raised over $1,600 for the foundation.

The purpose of the charity game was to give Wounded Warriors the opportunity to go on hunting trips at different properties around the country to get some time to relax and take their minds off of reality. The team’s goal for the charity night was to support the veterans and to work together as a team to raise as much money as possible.

Senior Catherine Bevevino, who has been a part of the team for four years, stated, “The charity game night was an absolute success! We raised over $1,600! One of the representatives from the organization was able to attend the game and speak between games, describing what this organization has done for him.”

The season has been a success all around for the girls. Junior Teagan Merriman, who has been a part of the team for three years commented, “Our season is going well so far.  We have played tough against some very good teams. My personal goal for the season is to improve my skills as a volleyball player and strengthen our team. For the rest of the season, I expect that we will improve as we play each game, and hopefully we will be able to make the playoffs!”

Bevevino remarked, “The season in my opinion is going really well. We have a very young group of girls this year, however we work better together this year than we ever have before in my past four years playing volleyball. We have built a bond that is so strong and it really shows when we are on the court. We have shown that even when we are losing we always keep our heads up and pull back together to succeed.”

Freshman Abbie Huey is excited about her first year on the team. She stated, “Being a freshman is great, I am welcomed by the older kids, I also play varsity a lot as a freshman.”

This year, the team has made an outstanding accomplishment, and the seniors are hoping to see this tradition continue.
