By TEAGAN MERRIMAN – This past month, seniors at IHS met to discuss plans for graduation at the conclusion of this incredibly strange school year.
Thanks to Mrs. Sexton, seniors received vital information about purchasing a cap, gown, and tassel, as well as information regarding the senior class trip, baccalaureate, and the actual graduation ceremony.
Senior Jack Fischer commented, “I think it’s important because without that information we would be in the dark about what is going to happen with graduation and the process we have to go through, especially with COVID.”
Students can purchase a cap, gown, and tassel for $26, or just a tassel for $5 if they have a cap and gown already available to them. As of now, plans are being made to hold an in-person graduation where students and a limited number of family members are able to attend. Should restrictions change, there are hopes that more guests will be able to attend.
There are also plans in place to hold an in-person baccalaureate at the end of May, which is a ceremony designed to honor members of the graduating class.
As students gear up for graduation, many think about their future plans. Senior Sandy Milby stated, “It’s exciting to think that graduation is approaching so quickly. It’s also kind of scary, though, because everything about our lives is going to change.”
Senior Maddie Palmer also had similar ideas stating, “When I graduate, I am most excited to start living a life that is completely my own. There’s a lot of excitement in being able to choose to do what makes you happy, and to finally be independent.”
