“We use the soles of our feet to dance and our hearts to give others a chance.” The annual Dancers with Heart and Sole charity show took place on Saturday, January 25 in the IHS auditorium. Dancers with Heart and Sole or “DWHAS” is a dance/variety show put on by Sue Hewitt Dance Studio.

“I’m so proud of our dance family for coming together every year to put together a great show that supports our community and charities,” commented junior Sophee McCabe.

Each year the seniors of Sue Hewitt Dance Studio pick a charity to donate the profits of the show. This year, profits from tickets, t-shirts, and concessions will go to the Indiana and Allegheny county Special Olympics.

The Indiana county Special Olympics is a part of the Special Olympics movement. Their goal is to “provide athletic training and competition to adults and children in Indiana County.” A portion of the profits will also go to the Dance Family fund, a fund that helps members of the SHDS community in times of need, as well as the SHDS Scholarship fund.

“It’s been an honor dancing for DWHAS and I enjoyed it even more this year being a senior.  This year was special for me because it was finally our year to pick a charity to donate to, Special Olympics was one that truly meant a lot to me,” expressed senior Sarah Denver.  “I will definitely miss all of my dancers, especially the seniors, and the great show we put on every year.  I will be back next year to watch the upcoming seniors bring happiness to the community and charities of their choice.”

The show features a variety of acts, performed by students of SHDS and others from the IHS community. The teachers of the SHDS choreographed dances that featured the talented dancers of the studio. It also featured student choreographed and performed numbers as well as musical numbers that included vocal and instrumental performances.

“DWHAS has been a part of my life for most of my life. I think it’s such a wonderful thing to be able to do something I love that also benefits the community. It’s great to see my dance family come together for a cause every year,” stated senior Alyssa McLaine.

DWHAS gives dancers an opportunity to showcase their hard work for both their peers and the community at large.
