By AUTUMN HAZELET – The 11th Annual Dancers with Heart and Sole charity show will be held on Saturday, January 21, at 2:00 pm in the Indiana Area Senior High School auditorium.
The show is presented by the Sue Hewitt Dance studio and features dancers and performers from all over Indiana County.
The show will feature variety styles of dance, as well vocal or instrumental performances. Over 150 performers will be displaying their talents, many of whom attend Indiana High School. This show also features the IHS Dance Team, under the direction of Indiana graduate Monica DeLoreto, who has performed in the show for many years with her fellow Sue Hewitt Dance Studio dancers.
Each performer has spent countless hours rehearsing, both in and out of regular dance classes. High school students are also given the chance to choreograph and showcase their own dances, and many embrace their opportunity to do so. As a result, there will be a wide range of small groups and soloists performing their own works.
Indiana juniors and Sue Hewitt dancers Halle Angelo and Kristen Forrester have participated in this event many times and are extremely excited about the performances planned for this year. “Kristen and I have participated in this event for more than 10 years, and I like how this year we decided to give the proceeds to many different charities. This event will make a difference in both the lives of the dancers and in those who benefit from the charities,” said Angelo. Forrester adds, “There is a lot of student choreography, and everyone has been working hard to create something unique and original. Also, a portion of the proceeds go to the Retinal Blindness Foundation, which will help Lochlan Whited, the son of my 4th grade teacher, Mr. Zack Whited, and it feels good to be able to help this cause in some way.”
The mission of DwHaS is to teach the importance of giving back to the community. Over the past ten years, over $56,000 has been raised to benefit a multitude of local charities and families in need. This year, the proceeds will be going to three great charities: The Care Center of Indiana County, Curing Retinal Blindness Foundation, and Hopeful Hearts.
Tickets for the show cost $10 for adults, $5 for students, and children five and under are admitted for free. It is a great day of entertainment that also goes a long way toward helping a variety of worthy charitable organizations.
