Students explore art and history at the Cleveland Museum of Art

On April 1, 2026, the French IV students and students enrolled in any IHS art class went on a field trip to the Cleveland Museum of Art. During the trip, students had the opportunity to explore numerous art exhibits filled with stunning art pieces.

The Cleveland Museum of Art has a magnificent collection of art. Some paintings on display include “Water Lilies,” which was painted by French impressionist Claude Monet, and “Rock at Sea,” which was painted by American painter Raymond Jonson. Students were able to spend time enjoying the artwork with their peers.

French IV student and IHS junior John Cross also commented about the trip, “I loved getting to see all the different exhibits and having fun with friends.” His favorite painting was Two Poplars by Vincent Van Gogh. He found it really nice to see a famous work of art, and liked the scene it embodied. If the trip was offered again, John would definitely attend. “It was a really great day, and I hope the opportunity presents itself for us to attend the trip again.”

IHS French teacher Mr. Jim Dykun also found the trip entertaining. Dykun commented, “The whole museum exceeded my expectations, and I loved touring the 19th-century European art. Some of his favorite art pieces were “Panoramic View of the Alps,” painted by Gustave Courbet, “The View of Florence,” painted by Thomas Cole, “The Red Kerchief,” painted by Claude Monet, “Shakespearean Equation,” painted by Man Ray, and the “Apollo and the Muses,” which was painted by Charles Meymier.” Dykun was fascinated by the “Panoramic View of the Alps” because there is a spot on the bottom right of the painting that was left unfinished, and he loves unfinished art.
