After 33 years of teaching and coaching, Mr. Scott Mossgrove will be retiring from IHS this year. Mr. Mossgrove bids adieu to an illustrious and meaningful teaching career.
“I’ve been a teacher, athletic director, and assistant principal at the junior high. Along with that I was a varsity football coach and a varsity track coach,” stated Mossgrove, who has been an inspiring and motivating figure to all of his students and athletes.
Although having many great accomplishments, Mr. Mossgrove describes one of his greatest, “I coached a Pennsylvania State Champion in the discus by the name of Melissa Stewart. I was fortunate enough to have two of my athletes inducted into the Indiana County Hall of Fame. I’ve coached a lot of kids and to me the most important thing to see is students go on to do bigger and better things.”
While Mr. Mossgrove sees his students achievements as his own, he also views his family as a great accomplishment. “I am proud to say I raised my family here in Indiana. They are my greatest legacy, my kids and my grandkids. I have a very supportive wife and we love living here. After retirement, we plan to move away, but we will definitely be back to visit.”
Senior Christian Brown commented, “Mr. Mossgrove has been one of my favorite teachers here. I’ve had him for three classes and I’ve always enjoyed them. He’s always very helpful and fun.
Mr. Mossgrove has taught a variety of classes, but his favorite to teach were his Geography classes along with his Assassinations class.
Mr. Mossgrove adds, “I’ve always enjoyed the students. The hardest part will be leaving some of my colleagues and my students here. I will miss my students and the concept of teaching. I was very fortunate to have Mr. Horn as a student teacher. He did very well. It makes me feel good that I will be able to pass on some things to the next generation of teachers.”
Mr. Horn commented, “Mr. Mossgrove has been a great role model and very helpful, because of his guidance I feel I am ready to become a classroom teacher.”
33 years of teaching has finally come to an end for Mr. Mossgrove. He has inspired and motivated all of his students and colleagues. He will always be remembered as a great teacher and a great coach.
